Frog Dissection
Ages 12+
This one and a half hour class will be a hands-on learning experience that will help students understand the anatomy and physiology of amphibians, which can also provide insights into the anatomy of other vertebrates, including humans. In this class, students are guided through the process of dissecting a preserved frog, using tools like scalpels, scissors, forceps, and pins.
The class begins with an overview of frog anatomy, including the external structures such as the skin, limbs, and eyes, and then progresses to the internal anatomy. Students examine major organ systems such as the digestive, circulatory, respiratory, excretory, and reproductive systems. They identify and study organs like the heart, lungs, liver, stomach, intestines, kidneys, and reproductive organs.
Safety and proper dissection techniques are emphasized throughout the class to ensure a respectful and educational experience. The class aims to provide a deeper understanding of biological concepts and the interconnectedness of organ systems in living organisms.
